Bideford First Team - The Chiefs
After a couple of disappointing seasons ending in relegation, last season saw one of the most successful campaigns in Bideford RFC’s history, both on and off the pitch. Through sheer grit, determination, and an influx of new and old players alike, Bideford Chiefs came runners up in the Devon 1 League and gained promotion through a play-off beating, Cornwall 1 runners up Liskeard-Looe.
The 2006/2007 season also saw the Chiefs reach round 6 of the EDF Junior Vase in which they we were unlucky to lose to the eventual finalists Billericay RFC from Essex, the best cup run in the entire club history. With continued strength, depth, and youth, coming through in the squad, the 2007/2008 season ably led by club skipper Dave Heywood, and coached by some fantastic back room staff (Mark Priest, Steve Slee, Rob Paterson, and Paul Lamana) , looks to be the ideal time to build a stronghold in the Tribute Cornwall/Devon League.
Many thanks must be extended to the 2007/2008 Chiefs sponsors, Farm & Cottage Holidays, and Brend Hotels for their continued support in Bideford RFC and grass roots rugby.
